June 5, 2014 by Hometown News

Joy Lanette Niemi
Memorial services celebrating the life of Joy Lanette Niemi, age 60 of Melrose, will take place at 2 pm on Friday, June 6th 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose officiated by Pastor Kevin Mann. Joy died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Legends at Heritage Place in Sartell on Friday afternoon after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. There will be a gathering prior to the service at the church from 12-2 pm. Arrangements are being made by Miller-Carlin Funeral Home.
Joy was born on April 18, 1954 to Robert and Ella (Jorgenson) Stelton in Plentywood, MT. At a young age, she and her family moved to Kimball, MN. She graduated from Kimball High School and later from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Special Education. Joy raised her family in Virginia, MN and Melrose. She owned several businesses and went to school while raising her children. She had many passions in life including gardening, watching baseball, spending time with her family, exercising and listening to music – especially Elvis, John Denver and Josh Groban. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melrose.
Joy is survived by her four loving children Bob (Wendy Dodge) Niemi, Mt. Iron; Lindsey (Patrick) Mitchell, Rogers; Rick (Elizabeth) Niemi, Eveleth; Maggie (Brent Terres) Niemi, Spring Hill; grandchildren Mathew, Evan, Ava, Bobby, Adrian, Kellan and Wyatt; and her siblings Diane (Gary) Langer, Melrose; Bobby Stelton, Kimball; and Glenna Pusc, Kimball.
Joy will join her parents Robert and Ella Stelton and Godchild Kurt Langer in heaven.
