Justin H. Schulte, age 87, of Freeport, died peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012 surrounded by his family at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Entombment was in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Justin Henry Schulte was born February 19, 1925 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Louis and Mary (Rohe) Schulte. He served time in Korea while in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. On September 28, 1954 he married Alma Frericks at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Justin especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He also loved farming, sitting on the deck watching the crops grow, sitting in his favorite chair watching cars and farm machinery go by on the road, and listening to KASM radio station.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, St. Joseph’s Men’s Society, Sacred Heart Catholic Aid Society, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Schulte of Freeport; children, Joyce (Frank) Koopmeiners of Upsala, Sue (Leroy) Tweet of Kenneth, Chuck Schulte of Freeport, Tom (Janet) Schulte of Sauk Centre, Pam (Kurt) Scherping of Freeport, Karen (Steve) Zwack of Freeport, Brian (Amy) Schulte of St. Cloud and Nancy (Lennie) Holmer of Perham; grandchildren, Kayla (Dustin) Richters, Arica and Melissa Tweet, Justin, Katie and Ryan Schulte, Cody, Brooke and Emily Scherping, Maddison, Katelyn and Ethan Schulte; and one great-granddaughter, Elle Richters; brothers and sisters, Ambrose (Jan) Reller, Rita (Dan) Wicker, Dorothy (Art) Van Heel, Rosie (Bob) Elfering and Gene (Vickie) Reller; sister-in-law, Anna Schulte; and many nieces and nephews.
Justin was preceded in death by his son, Allen Schulte; parents, brother, Norbert Schulte; sister, Florence Roering; brother-in-law, Lawrence Roering; and step-father, George Reller.
Serving as casket bearers were Joyce Koopmeiners, Sue Tweet, Chuck Schulte, Tom Schulte, Pam Scherping, Karen Zwack, Brian Schulte and Nancy Holmer. Cross bearer was Melissa Tweet and scripture bearer was Katelyn Schulte. Gift bearers were Cody Scherping, Justin Schulte and Ryan Schulte. Readers were Dustin and Kayla Richters. Petitions were read by Arica Tweet and Emily Scherping. Eulogies were read by Brooke Scherping and Katie Schulte.
