Kathryn A. “Katie” Dolence, age 85 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully with family at her bedside on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Kathryn Ann Westbrock was born October 28, 1930 in Freeport, Minnesota to Herman and Mary (Schmidt) Westbrock. On April 26, 1949 she was united in marriage to Robert Dolence at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. Katie worked as a paraprofessional for the Grey Eagle and Long Prairie School District for many years. Katie was known as the best cook to her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, bowling, going to garage sales and antique shopping. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister within the U.S. and was a huge Twins fan.
Katie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Sherry (Jim) Bretz of Perham, Dan Dolence of Grey Eagle, Pat (Chuck) Kitzman of Fergus Falls, Mary (Keith) Matthies of Holdingford, and Gina Clear of Upsala; ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with one due in October; brother and sister, Richard (Geri) Westbrock of Belton, Missouri, and Carol Dolence of St. Joseph; and sister-in-law, Audrey Westbrook of Lakeville.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dolence on April 26, 1985; parents; brothers, Bill and Tony; two infant brothers; and sister-in-law, Bernice Westbrock.
Serving as casket bearers were Dustin Kitzman, Andy Clear, Ryan Dolence, Steve Skroch, Greg Willenbring, Geoff Carlson, Isaiah Weber, and Joe Lee. Cross bearer was Sam Weber and scripture bearer was Luke Weber. Gift bearers were Don Dolence and Bonnie Landwehr. Readers were Dave Swenson and Paul Landwehr.
