Kennard N. Bunger, of Albany, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Centra Care Hospital in Melrose, MN. Kennard was born in Davis, SD on April 10. 1928 to Henry C. Bunger and Marie A. Bunger. He graduated from Lennox SD high school in 1946. He married Loris M. Van Ningen on February 3, 1950, in Lennox, SD. They moved to Sioux Falls, where he worked for Nash Finch Co. for 40+ years as a truck driver. He and Loris were also church custodians for 30 years at First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, where they formed many friendships. Later in life they became members of Good News Reformed Church in Sioux Falls until they moved to Albany, MN in the fall of 2007.
Kennard enjoyed hunting pheasants and deer in South Dakota as well as camping as a family. He and Loris enjoyed vacations in the Black Hills and for decades would vacation in August in Custer, relaxing while picking wild raspberries, trout fishing and going for drives in the evenings counting deer. After his retirement they began spending the entire summer in the Black Hills as Campground Hosts at Big Pine Campground just outside of Custer until moving to Albany, MN. Kennard is survived by their three children, Gaylon (Sue) Bunger, Harrisburg, SD, Marcy (Glenn) Mushaney, Sioux Falls SD, and Todd (Heidi) Bunger, Albany, MN; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild with another due in March.
He was preceded in death by his wife Loris Bunger, parents, Henry C. and Marie A. Bunger, a sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Delmar Kuper, Lennox, SD, his grandson. Erik Bunger, Sioux Falls and a host of family and friends that passed before him.
A memorial service for Ken and Loris will be held on April 18th at 10:00 am, at George Boom Funeral Home, East 10th Street, Sioux Falls, for friends and family. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. Internment will be at the Lennox Cemetery in a private ceremony for the family.
