Leander M. “Lee” Weirens, age 98 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 surrounded by family at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 20 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Mark Botzet officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Leander Michael Weirens was born July 11, 1927 in Luxemburg Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Ann (Theis) Weirens. On June 11, 1951 he was united in marriage to Esther Leukam at St. John’s Catholic Church in Meire Grove, Minnesota. Lee owned and operated Lee’s Transmission Repair in Sauk Centre for over 31 years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Catholic United, Happy Go Getters Band for 12 years, and Lee’s Concertina Band for 13 years. Lee enjoyed entertaining at the nursing home, assisted livings, and manors, square dancing, and loved fishing.
Survivors include his children, Joan (Steve) Dehn of Dent, Dan (Annette) Weirens of St. Cloud, and Duane Weirens of Sauk Centre; sisters-in-law, Agnes Weirens, Florence Weirens, Alice Klaphake, and Irene Leukam; and many nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Weirens on April 13, 2016; parents; brothers, Robert, Melvin, Al, Richard and Joe Weirens; and sister, Helen Haider.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
