LeRoy “Flash” Schiller

LeRoy Schiller, age 87, of Mankato, MN died on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Pathstone Living in Mankato. A memorial service was held on Friday, August 28 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Father Ralph Zimmerman officiating. Interment was in the North Star Cemetery in St. Cloud.
LeRoy was born to William and Rose (Cherne) Schiller on August 1, 1928. He married Dorothy Haugen Potthoff on June 12, 1970. He graduated from St. Cloud State University and was employed by the State of Minnesota Correctional Facility, St. Cloud, MN. Here he was in charge of the Special Needs Program and was the coordinator of the Learning Resource Center. During this time he acted as Chief Negotiator for the contracts between Residential Teachers and the State of MN. He was active in the MEA and Correctional Education on the local, regional, national, and the international levels.
After retiring, he moved to Big Birch Lake in 1982. There he was involved with many wildlife and lake groups. He served as director on the Big Birch Lake Association for 12 years. He was an instructor for Defensive Driving for 20 years. LeRoy was active in many senior and retirees programs. LeRoy and Dorothy were snowbirds and spent many winters in the south, especially Arizona.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Mankato; three daughters, Kathy (Robert) McGuire of Janesville, MN Barb (Randy) Dombrovski of Mankato, and Carrol Meyers Dobler of Bismarck, ND; brothers, Clarence of Palmdale, CA and Jerry of Anchorage, AK; sisters, Rosemary Kay of Alexandria, VA, Bernice Scherping of Freeport, MN, Dorothy Noones of Livermore, CA, Delores Zimmerman of St. Cloud, Audrey Snyder of Canton, MN, and Eleanore Bovy of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William and Alvin.
