Loretta Peterson, age 66 of Grey Eagle, died following a battle with cancer Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Grey Eagle with interment following in Moses Dane Cemetery.
Loretta Yvonne McElhaney was born March 9, 1948 in Granite Falls, Minnesota to VaneCameron and Elvira (Anderson) McElhaney. In the early 80’s Loretta moved “Up North” where she enjoyed life. Later in life, Loretta went back to college. On August 21, 2013 she retired from Coborn’s where she worked for 20 years. Loretta enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing, and going to the casino. She loved Elvis, a good sale, and Penny Pinchers.
Survivors include her significant other, Duane Karls of Grey Eagle; children, Linda Wrobel of Grey Eagle, Sherrie (Scott) Wieling of Little Falls, Lori (Carl) Brown of Reno, Nevada, Chad (Amy) Poppenhagen of Swanville, and Crystal (Greg) Nichols of Crosby; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly (Tom) Clyde of Minnetonka, Shelly McElhaney of Brook Park, and Shirley (Mike) Bodner of Exeland, Wisconsin; and brother, Dwight (Denna) McElhaney of Zimmerman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, VaneCameron Jr., Phillip, and David McElhaney.
Serving as casket bearers were her grandsons, Austin Hanson, Ari Poppenhagen, Richard McCaughtry, Jacob Nichols, Michael Wieling, and Chance Brown.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Grey Eagle.
