Lorraine was born on April 24, 1945, in Elmdale Township to the late Al and Theckla (Finken) Frie. On her sixth birthday, the family moved to the farm halfway between Upsala and Swanville, and this is where Lorraine lived for more than 70 years. She attended school in Upsala and graduated in 1963. After high school, Lorraine lived in St. Cloud and worked at the St. Cloud Hospital. Lorraine worked in sewing for many years, first at Munsingwear in Little Falls then at Stearns in Grey Eagle. In her last years before retirement, Lorraine worked at Larson Boats for a time, then she became a CNA and worked at the Lutheran Home in Little Falls. Lorraine loved to travel and went on dozens of trips over the years, traveling to several countries, including Italy, Germany, Morocco, and Canada, as well as taking bus tours and mystery tours to locations all over the United States. Lorraine was excellent at embroidery, macrame, and trivia. She enjoyed puzzles and spent years painting and curating an elaborate miniature Christmas village. Lorraine was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Church in Upsala, where she participated in the Mission Quilting group and Christian Women.
She is survived by brothers, Werner (Anna Mae) Frie of Upsala, Elmer Frie of Upsala, Fred (Madonna) Frie of Grey Eagle; sister, Mary Frie of Upsala; brother-in-law, Dennis Murray of Arlington, WA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
