Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Margaret Johanna (Gerads) Ostendorf, age 91, of Albany, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Margaret was surrounded by her family when she passed away at the Melrose Hospital on December 8, 2023.
Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 14th at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in Albany and again at 10 AM on Friday, December 15th at Seven Dolors. The interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
Margaret was born in Elmdale Township to John and Theresa (Muellner) Gerads. She lived in St. Francis until marrying then moved to Albany. She married Anthony Ostendorf on August 19, 1952, in St. Francis. She worked at Sully’s Café, then Enga’s, before taking ownership and operating Dawn’s Café for an additional 26 years before retiring in 2001. Margie volunteered for many years at Mother Seton store in Albany and was also a longtime member of TOPS. She is a member of the Christian Mothers, of the Seven Dolars Catholic Church in Albany.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Donald) Luethmers, Delano; John (Ann) Ostendorf, St. Joseph; Janice (Jayme) Hennek, Avon; Richard (Cindy) Ostendorf, Avon; David (Sherry) Ostendorf, Melrose; and James (Michele) Ostendorf, Little Falls. Her siblings Lawrence (Dorothy) Gerads, Tony (Maryann) Gerads, Erma (John) Anderson, Monica (Konrad) Gores. She is also survived by her son-in-law Clarence Borgerding, Freeport, 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Ostendorf and her parents John and Theresa (Muellner) Gerads. Children, Joseph Ostendorf and Marilyn Borgerding. She is also preceded by her sister Mary Zimmerman Brooks and grandson David G. Ostendorf.
