
Mary Bernadette “Bernie” Welck, age 89 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Assumption Nursing Home in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ron Dockendorf officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mary Bernadette Peschel was born February 11, 1928 in Little Falls, Minnesota to George and Alice (Grimes) Peschel. On December 27, 1948 she was united in marriage to Thomas “Bud” Welck at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. Bernie worked as a clerk at St. Michael’s Hospital in Sauk Centre for 25 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, Christian Mothers, St. Joseph’s prayer line, and volunteered by helping deliver Meals on Wheels. Bernie enjoyed reading, watching the Minnesota Twins, the companionship of her dog, April, taking occasional trips to the casino, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Thomas “Tom” Jr. (Sharon) Welck of Grey Eagle, Cindy (Scott) Mathre of Cold Spring, and Jan (Fritz) Steile of Maple Grove; seven grandchildren, Jessi, Annie, Shannon, Leah, Ryan, Drew and Erin; and five great-grandchildren, Keegan, Quinn, Cal, Jack and Bennett.
Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Bud” Welck on January 8, 2008; parents; granddaughter, Katelyn in 1985; brother, Don Peschel; and sister, Marjorie Fiduk.
Serving as urn bearer will be Drew Steile. Cross bearer will be Keegan Mathre and scripture bearer will be Calan Heying.
Memorials are preferred.
