MaryEllen B. Rosen, age 89 of Freeport, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B officiating and Rev. Bradley Jenniges, O.S.B concelebrating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
MaryEllen Barbara Ann Stroeing was born July 6, 1925 in St. Martin Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Frank and Anna (Buettner) Stroeing. On September 30, 1947 she married Jerome Rosen at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed east of Freeport; retiring in 1986 and then moving to town. She enjoyed gardening, canning, playing cards, fishing, and quilting. She was so proud of three of her quilts selling at the church bazaar to a gentleman from California for a large sum of money. She experimented with everything and anything as far as cooking, canning, and quilting.
MaryEllen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, St. Mary’s Mission Group, Christian Mothers, and National Society of Catholic Order of Foresters Court 532.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Rosen of Mother of Mercy, Albany; children, Warren (Janet) Rosen of Vancouver, WA, Dianne (Mayers) (Richard) Schlichtmann of Hillsboro, ND, Marilyn (Darell) Wall of Forbes, ND, Eileen Rosen of Freeport, and Richard (MaryJane) Rosen of Albany; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Rita Marie (Fred) Stang of Minneapolis, Leora (Pete) Honer of St. Joseph, Sylvester Stroeing of Freeport, Vernon (Margie) Stroeing of Freeport, and Marvin (Marlene) Stroeing of Freeport.
MaryEllen was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Ralph Mayers in 1978; sisters and brother, Dorothy Stroeing, Evelyn Voller, Wilfred Stroeing, and Celestine Stroeing.
Serving as casket bearers were Craig Mayers, Janeen Slegh, John Wall, Sue Urlacher, Natasha Penner, Ryan Schleppenbach, Neil Rosen, and Aaron Rosen. Cross bearer was Melanie Rosen and scripture bearer was Douglas Blumer. Readers were Darren Mayers and Pamela Henningson. Gift bearers were Amanda Douvier, Leah Rosen, and Eric Rosen. Eucharistic Ministers were Darell and Marilyn Wall. Honorary bearers were Christian Mothers, Goldenaires Senior Citizens, and National Society of Catholic Order of Foresters Court 532.
