Mildred Dempsey, 92, of Long Prairie, passed away on November 2, 2017. Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, with Pastor Bill Bakewicz officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville and on the day of the funeral one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Long Prairie.
Mildred was born February 22, 1925, in Burnhamville Township, Todd County, to Awald & Wilhelmena (Denien) Steuck. She graduated from high school in 1942 and on September 2, 1947 she married Clarence “Irish” Dempsey. Together Mildred and Irish owned and operated Irish’s Place and the Dempsey Supper Club. In 1965 they bought a bar in Alexandria and ran it for seven years. Mildred enjoyed decorating cakes, sewing, cooking, gardening and watching the birds. Mildred was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Mildred is survived by her children: Michael (Kathy) Dempsey, Thomas (Jill) Dempsey, John (Lisa) Dempsey; grandchildren: Jenny, Derek and Evan and brother Wally Steuck.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence, son James and siblings: Rueben, Reinhold, Ruth Vavra, Herb, Esther Miller, Wilhelmena Holler, Fred and Hubert.
