Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen reports that on 03-13-2016 at approximately 6:44 pm, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a subject riding a four wheeler that went through the ice on Platte Lake, in Richardson Township, north of Hillman.
According to Sheriff’s Office, 69-year-old James Pattock of Foley was on his ATV and it went through the ice east of the Platte Lake access, approximately five hundred feet away from the shoreline. Pattock was able to eventually pull himself out of the water onto stable ice until responding officers could rescue him. Officers on scene used an aluminum boat that was found nearby and they were able to rescue Pattock and return him to shore without incident.
According to Sheriff Larsen, this is the second incident over the weekend where an ATV and person fell through the ice in Morrison County. Sheriff Larsen wants to remind the public that with the warmer temperatures we have been experiencing, the ice is not safe. The ice is deteriorating fast and with the cold water temperatures you would not only be putting yourself at risk of hypothermia, but also our first responders.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Pierz Police Department, Minnesota DNR, Minnesota State Patrol, Sullivan Lake and Hillman First Response Team, Pine Center First Response Team, Pierz Fire Department and Onamia Ambulance.
