Philip E. DuBois, age 98 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday March 19th 2021 at Fairway Pines Assisted Living in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24 at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment will be held at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Sauk Centre with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a time for sharing stories Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Philip Edward DuBois was born September 2, 1922 in Red Wing, Minnesota to Raymond and Hulda (Hisley) DuBois. Throughout his youth, Phil was an active member of the Aurora Ski Club and participated in any and all sports. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII, based in the south Pacific for four years. He was honorably discharged on December 17th, 1945.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life Beatrice Nash on January 5, 1949 in Red Wing Minnesota. Phil started his coaching and teaching journey in Eagle Bend Mn in 1951 with his wife Beatrice at his side. He stayed in Eagle Bend teaching and establishing winning records in Basketball and Football until 1955 when he moved to Sauk Centre, Mn to further his career. There he taught History and Social Studies and coached Basketball, Football, Golf and Baseball. He taught in the classroom from 1955-1984. But it was his genuine love for working with the kids and his fellow coaches that led him to continue to coach and substitute teach until his 85th year of life. Because of his genuine kindness and caring, he touched the lives of many and for this he will be fondly remembered.
Phil was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, the VFW and the American Legion all in Sauk Centre. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and working on the house, but his greatest passion was his love for his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Steve (Sandra) DuBois of Kasson, MN, Janna (Scott) Larson of Highmore, SD, Kelly (Vance) DuBois-Gerchak of Moorhead, MN, and Jason (Julie) DuBois of Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Philip was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice DuBois, parents, and two brothers.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons, Isaac DuBois, Philip DuBois, Jarred Larson, Graham Larson, Alexander Gerchak, Tanner DuBois and Jessica Honza. Cross bearer will be Alianna DuBois and scripture bearer will be Hutton DuBois.
