Richard Charles Carlson, 92, of Albany, MN passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at his daughter’s home in Holdingford, MN. A Requiem High Mass was held Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN with Father Rick Aubol officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Military Honors were conducted by the Minnesota State Honor Guard.
Richard “Dick” Carlson was born March 23, 1934 in Hibbing, MN to George and Hazel (Alden) Carlson. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1952 and continued his education with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah in 1956. Richard served in the United States Army from 1953-1956 and was a Staff Sergeant with a tour in Korea. He worked at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for 26 years as a case worker. Richard married Grace Welle on June 15, 1968 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove, MN. Richard and Grace raised nine children living on a hobby farm north of Albany, MN.
Richard is survived by his wife, Grace; and their children: Anne (Pete) Reuter, Pine River, MN; Sarah (Troy) Kiffmeyer, Rice, MN; Michael Carlson, Chisholm, MN; Peter (Michelle) Carlson, St. Cloud, MN; Paul Carlson, Little Falls, MN; Therese (Leander) Haffner, Sartell, MN; Mary (Robert) Langner, Brainerd, MN; Joseph Carlson, Albany, MN; and Katherine (Milton) Eiden, Holdingford, MN; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley.
