Richard Charles “Dick” Nelson, 80 year old resident of Upsala, MN, died Wednesday, January 27 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 A.M. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala, MN with Rev. CJ Boettcher officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service on Saturday.
Richard Charles “Dick” Nelson was born July 10, 1935 in Sherburn, Minnesota to Walter and Elenore (Johnson) Nelson. He attended school in Sherburn, MN and graduated from Sherburn High School. Dick served in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in California. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp and returned to Minnesota. Dick graduated from McAllister College with a degree in education. He was united in marriage to Marie Kosel on July 13, 1966 in St. Stephen, MN. The couple made their home in Shoreview, MN. Dick taught school in Appelton, MN and he retired from North St. Paul, Maplewood, Oakdale School District #622. Dick enjoyed world travel with his wife, Marie. He was an avid collector of many things throughout his life. Dick was a very generous giver, donating to many charities. He loved his cats and caring for many birds in his backyard. Dick was a loving husband and was a very soft spoken, gentle and caring person.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie Nelson of Upsala, MN; aunt, Fern Nelson of Minneapolis, MN, sister-in-law, Rosie (Steve) Weyer of Sartell, MN; brothers-in-law, Frank (Karen) Kosel of Temecula, CA and Tony (Patty) Czech of Cold Spring, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elenore Nelson; brother, John Nelson; sister-in-law, Judy Czech; mother and father-in-law, Math (Sally) Kosel.
