Rick J. Wensman, age 54 of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023, at his home in Melrose, Minnesota after a five-year battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 1 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. In honor of Rick, please wear your favorite music/concert shirt Thursday night!
Rick Joseph Wensman was born December 26, 1968 to LeRoy and Beatrice (Jacobs) Wensman. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1987. On October 19, 1996, he married Karla Haskamp at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. He worked at Melrose Body Shop for 25 plus years and then began working at Carstens in Melrose for the next 10 years. On December 11, 2018, Rick was diagnosed with cancer. He began a series of treatments and fought cancer hard.
Rick and Karla called Melrose home all their lives. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. He enjoyed shooting pool, watching sports, playing games on his tablet, doing yardwork, and helping Karla with her flowers. Rick enjoyed going to concerts with his family, crafts, making his famous flags, remodeling projects, but most of all, he enjoyed hanging out with friends and laughing and being together with his family.
Survivors include the love of his life, Karla Wensman; his pride and joy, Trevor Wensman and Courtney Wensman; brother, Jeff Wensman and his children, Kaitlyn and Ashlynn; brother, Jason Wensman; mother-in-law, Diane Haskamp; sisters-in-law, Kristen and Kelli Haskamp; and brother-in-law, Michael Haskamp and his children, Cahil, Jayda, Layla (his only Godchild), Laycee, and Clayton.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Beatrice Wensman; and father-in-law, Jim Haskamp.
Memorials are preferred.
