Robert “Bob” Sobiech, 68 year old resident of Sobieski, MN passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, MN. A visitation was held from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Burial took place on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, MN.
Bob was born on February 23, 1946 in Little Falls, MN to the late Lawrence and Verle (Schrupp) Sobiech. He grew up in Sobieski, MN and attended school in Upsala, where he graduated high school. Upon graduation Bob enlisted into the U.S. Army on November 17, 1965 and honorably served overseas in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on October 29, 1968. Bob was united in marriage to Kayla Lambrecht on March 11, 1972 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN. He worked his entire life as a heavy equipment operator for the Local 49 Labor Union. In his free time, Bob enjoyed gardening, trapping, hunting, and doing dirtwork. He was a collector of many things and always made sure he had two of everything. Most recently he loved having new buildings constructed or improved on his property. Bob was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Bob is survived by his children, Kevin (Sheila Szczodroski) Sobiech of Little Falls, MN, Denise (Steve Gregory) Dempsey of Little Falls, MN, Kim (Eric) Fochler of Royalton, MN, and Billie Jo (Jacob) Waltman of Little Falls, MN; brothers, Ronald (Barb) Sobiech of Maple Grove, MN, Roger (Michele) Sobiech of Bella Vista, AR, and Charles (Debbie) Sobiech of Swanville, MN; sisters, Janice (Vic) Schlangen of Avon, MN and Mary (Larry Smiley) Guggemos of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Daniela, Carlie, Ana, Gretchen Sobiech, Mason, Maxwell, Olivia Dempsey, Coltin, and Alex Waltman; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Verle Sobiech. Funeral arrangements were with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN.
