Rodney D. “Rod” Thornbloom

Rodney D. “Rod” Thornbloom, age 80 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Cura Care Centre in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with military honors at 1 p.m. by the Little Sauk American Legion. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Rodney Dale Thornbloom was born March 31, 1945 in Long Prairie, Minnesota to Gerald and Valborg (Brakken) Thornbloom. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Maher on November 30, 1968 in Osakis, Minnesota. Geraldine passed away in October of 1995. On May 3, 1997, he was united in marriage to Maren Lattin in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Rod was a self-employed painter in the Twin Cities Metro area for many years. He retired in 2002 and the couple moved to Sauk Centre.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk. Rod loved fishing and taking care of his immaculate lawn.
Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Maren Thornbloom of Sauk Centre; children, Todd (Monica) Thornbloom of Florida, Eric (Sara) Thornbloom of Minneapolis, Katy Prantner of Chaska, and David (Katy) Prantner of Oregon; 12 grandchildren; brothers and sister, John Thornbloom of Stanchfield, Rick “Radar” Thornbloom of Osakis, and Sue (Bob) Volkman of Osakis; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Thornbloom; parents; brother, Gerald “Gerry” Thornbloom; and sisters-in-law, Linda Thornbloom and Judy Thornbloom.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral and Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
