Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, March 14, 2014 at American Lutheran Church, Long Prairie for Roselyn M. Eckel, age 77, of Long Prairie, who passed away on Monday at CentraCare Health Systems-Long Prairie. Rev. Gary Taylor will officiate and burial will be at Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery, rural Long Prairie. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 pm, Thursday and one hour prior to the services at American Lutheran Church.
Roselyn Minna Lunser was born March 14, 1936 in Round Prairie Township, Todd County, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Olga (Tabatt) Lunser. She married Lloyd Eckel on June 12, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle. She raised her family and did some waitressing. She later became a nurses aid at the Long Prairie Nursing Home, where she worked for almost 40 years.
Roselyn was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and later Peace United Church and its Ladies Aid. She also taught Sunday School. She was active in mission work, with groups such as the Orphan Grain Train and Hands of Hope. She also crocheted many prayer shawls and cancer caps. Every fall, Roselyn would bake 50 apple pies for the freezer and 20 ice cream pails of different kinds of cookies. They would be given to family and friends as Christmas gifts and would be taken to church happenings. She always said “My gifts would come from the kitchen or sewing room-packed with love and made with love. She was also an avid canner. She would can 600-700 jars of food each year. She also enjoyed writing stories and poems.
Roselyn is survived by her children, Diane (Bruce) Englin, Butterfield, MN; Randy (Laurie) Eckel, Loren (Rosi) Eckel, Danny Eckel, and Larry (Jodi) Eckel, all of Long Prairie, two brothers, Ed Lunser, Long Prairie, and Robert (Jane) Lunser, Grey Eagle, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, and brothers Rueben and Arthur Lunser.
