St. Cloud, Minn. – Beginning today, Tuesday, July 28, parents and guardians will be able to make an appointment for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination for children 6 months and older. Vaccinations appointments can be scheduled at CentraCare clinics through a primary care provider. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination series for children ages 6 months to 4 years old on June 18.
Here are the options for scheduling the COVID-19 vaccine for your child:
Call CentraCare Connect at 320-200-3200 to schedule an appointment at MOST CentraCare locations.
Receive the vaccine during a primary care clinic visit.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages 6 months to 4 years old is one-tenth the dosage given to adults. It is a three-shot regimen; children would receive two doses three weeks apart, and a third dose at least two months later.
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved for ages 5-11 in October 2021 and ages 12-17 in May 2021; and it’s also available at CentraCare clinics.
A parent or guardian must provide consent and be present at any immunization appointment.
While children are far less likely than adults to get seriously ill from COVID-19, they still can transmit the disease to others. Getting kids vaccinated is an important component of protecting our children from serious illness. For answers to questions about the COVID-19 vaccine for kids, please talk with your child’s primary care provider.
