On December 14, 2020 at approximately the Stearns County Communications Center received a call reporting a possible fire in a garage attic. The homeowner Beth Schlangen, 34, St. Martin, had been experiencing electrical issues earlier and had the circuit breaker replaced to correct issue. The homeowner noticed this morning that they had no power in the garage and that some circuit breakers had been tripped. They contacted the electrician again who responded to the home. The electrician opened a garage attic access and found smoke and immediately exited the area, called 911, and the home was vacated. St Martin Fire & Rescue responded and located the source of heat/electrical fire in attic. St. Martin Fire opened the attic in the garage and kitchen to remove insulation which was smoldering. The fire was extinguished but as a result of those efforts the home is temporarily unlivable. Fire and smoke damages were limited to the garage and kitchen area. The homeowner did not need any housing assistance.
