Sun obstructs driver’s vision causing crash.
Kjerstin Campbell, 17, of Paynesville, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on County Road 2 attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Island Lake Road. Jesse Kern, 38, of Cold Spring, was also traveling eastbound in his Chevrolet Suburban when he struck the rear of the Equinox at approximately 50 mph. Mr. Kern said he did not see any brake lights or turn signals due to the sun obstructing his vision.
Jacqueline Campbell, 53, and Claire Campbell, 15, both of Paynesville, were passengers in the Equinox. Claire was transported by Mayo Ambulance to the St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Cold Spring/Richmond Police Department and Cold Spring Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
