On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle crash near Co Rd 2 and Island Lake Road in Wakefield Township. When officers arrived on scene they located the crash just north of this intersection. The initial investigation showed that a 2008 Mitsubishi Gallant was traveling southbound on Co Rd 2 when the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways into the northbound lanes. This vehicle was occupied by Cody Randall, JD Randall and Katie Seegmiller from Washington City, Utah. When the vehicle entered the northbound traffic lane, the vehicle was impacted by a 2002 Buick Lesbre which was driven by Sandra Hansen of Cold Spring. The crash sent the Mitsubishi Gallant into the eastbound ditch where the vehicle rolled and Cody Randall and JD Randall were ejected from the vehicle. Responders attempted lifesaving measures, however, both were pronounced deceased at the scene. Katie Seegmiller was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by Cold Spring Fire Department and later airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. Sandra Hansen was also extricated from her vehicle and transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to the St Cloud Hospital and is listed in stable condition. The Minneosta State Patrol, Cold Spring Police Department, Cold Spring Fire Department, Rockville Fire Department, North Air Helicopter and Lifelink Helicopter assisted the Sheriff’s Office. The crash is still under investigation.
