Susan M. Vogel, age 91 of Melrose, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. The Christian Mothers and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Auxiliary will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Susan Mathilda Arnzen was born January 29, 1926 in St. Rosa, Minnesota to Herman and Clara (Van Heel) Arnzen. She was united in marriage to Ervin H. Vogel on September 28, 1946 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Susan worked at Jennie-O Foods for 59 years until her retirement in 2003. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. Susan enjoyed playing BINGO, pull tabs, and scratch-offs. She loved playing “You Are My Sunshine” on her harmonica and dancing while her children played in their band.
Survivors include her children, Arlene Roerick of Minnetonka, Joan (James) Botz of Rockville, Geraldine (Fred) Viere of Freeport, Daniel (Phyllis) Vogel of Melrose, Darrell (Deb) Vogel of Champlin, David (Lisa) Vogel of Melrose, Tim (Laura) Vogel of Melrose, and Allen Vogel (April Dewald) of Melrose; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Vogel on February 20, 2010; parents; son, James Vogel; son-in-law, Arnold Roerick; brothers, Al Arnzen, Elmer Arnzen, and Andrew Arnzen; and sisters, Bernelda Rohde, Gertrude Ostendorf, Rose Tiemann, Martha Stanczyk, Bridget Waldvogel, Esther Tobroxen, and Marie Becker.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dean Roerick, Vicki Herdering, Jeff Botz, Chris Vogel, Rebecca Vogel, Matthew Vogel, Keith Vogel, and Bailey Rahn. Cross bearer will be Emily Wensmann and scripture bearer will be Miles Vogel.
