Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. The meeting called to order 7:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sandy Lange, John Dragseth, and Norm Carlson. Absent: Tony Maciej and Jim Molitor. Also present: reporter Terry Lehrke.
Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting Tuesday, July 7, 2022 were reviewed. A motion was made by John Dragseth to approve the minutes. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
The treasures report was given. A motion was made by Norm Carlson and seconded by John Dragseth to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
A land use permit from Kathy Plakut to add a cement patio to the back of her house was reviewed. John Dragseth made a motion to approve the Plakut land use permit. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. all voted in favor, motion carried. A land use permit for Roxanne Thompson to replace the existing fence and deck in the back of her house and make the deck 8’ longer was reviewed. Mayor Lange made a motion to make sure the deck is 8’ longer toward the alley and then approved. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All in favor, motion carried.
Council received a letter from Clif Allen, city engineer, stating nothing has changed on the storage tank project. Everything is on hold yet.
Mayor Lange reported to the council that she contacted US Senators Klobuchar and Smith and they informed her Swanville did not make the cut for two million in federal funding for its water project.
Mayor Lange presented to council the proposed 2023 budget-Tabled.
The preliminary levy for 2023 is tabled until next month.
Mayor Lange encouraged council to go on line and take the training for the Board of Appeals and Adjustments.
Initiative Foundation contribution for 2023 was discussed. Norm Carlson made a motion to contribute $600 in 2023. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All voted in favor, motion carried.
Selling price for the lots in the North Berkey 1st Addition was discussed. No price can be set at this time, council will revisit when bidding for the project is in.
Filing period for city council candidates is August 2-6, 2022. The terms are for Mayor, two-year term and two Council members, 4-year terms. Council members Tony Maciej and Jim Molitor terms are up for election.
The Swanville Rural Fire Association will have it’s yearly meeting on Tuesday, August 23 at 8:00 pm. The annual budget and members assessment will be set at this meeting. Council is asked to attend. The executive board will meet Tuesday, August 16 at 8:00 pm.
The following claims were presented for payment. Members of the council were furnished with a listing. Norm Carlson made a motion to approve the claims. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
The next regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Swanville Center. Reminder of the Rural Fire Association, Tuesday, August 23-8:00 pm.
There being no further business, a motion was made by Norm Carlson and seconded by John Dragseth to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:35 pm.
