Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. The meeting called to order 7:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sandy Lange, John Dragseth, Norm Carlson, Jim Molitor and Tony Maciej. Also present: Dan Thieschafer and reporter Terry Lehrke.
Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting Tuesday, May 3, 2022 were reviewed. A motion was made by Norm Carlson to approve the minutes. Jim Molitor seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
The treasures report was given. A motion was made by Jim Molitor and seconded by John Dragseth to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
Land Use Permits were presented to council, Bryan Allen would like to add a 13’x20’ cement slab/sidewalk by garage/10’x10’ cement slab at 304 DeGraff Ave. This is a commercial lot and meets all the set backs. Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the permit for Allen. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
Diane Cornell would like to do some cement work to detour rain by garage/replace front steps/widen sidewalk on the north side of house. All set backs have been met. Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the permit for Cornell. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
Frank Gessell would like to add a 20’x20’ cement slab next to the east of existing driveway. All set backs have been met. Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the permit for Gessell. Tony Maciej seconded the motion. all members voted in favor, motion carried. All permit fees have been paid.
Dan Thieschafer was present to inquire on the progress of the land lots in the First Berkey Addition. At this time council feels the lots will not be buildable in 2023. The process of the water storage tank, wells and the new addition is moving very slow. No money from the government has been approved for any of the projects.
The Energy and Environment grant money which has been received will have to be used before the end of June. So far, the new LED bulbs in the main street lights have been installed. Trees are in the process of being ordered to put along Springbrook Drive.
The museum is moving along well and is hoped to be finished by the Carnival in July.
Over grown lawns and junk vehicles were discussed. A list of violators will be gathered and letters will be sent out to those residents.
The culvert at the end of 5th Street East was discussed. City maintenance will get Big Stone Excavating to dig it out where it pools.
Swanville Lions are requesting a 3-day strong beer license for the Swanville Carnival, July 8, 9, & 10, 2022. Tony Maciej made a motion to approve the license with an $80.00 fee, the same as the previous year. John Dragseth second the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
There was discussion on city residents not hooked up to city water where available. It was decided Mayor Lange will get in contact with the city attorney to move forward in notifying residents not hooked up to city water and the steps that will be taken to enforce the process.
The following claims were presented for payment. Members of the council were furnished with a listing. Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the claims. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.
The next regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Swanville Center.
There being no further business, a motion was made by Jim Molitor and seconded by Tony Maciej to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:30 pm.
