Sylvia M. Schulzetenberg

Sylvia M. Schulzetenberg, age 87 of New Munich, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Park View Assisted Living in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Daniel Walz officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Order of Foresters at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Sylvia Mary Wenker was born February 16, 1930 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Bernard and Rose (Kortenbusch) Wenker. Sylvia attended Melrose High School and on October 3, 1949 she was united in marriage to Henry Schulzetenberg at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greenwald.  Together they farmed south of Freeport where Sylvia took excellent care of her family and home.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, St. Anne’s Christian Mothers, and the St. Leo Court 786 Catholic Order of Foresters. Sylvia enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting, traveling, family gatherings, playing cards, and bowling.

Survivors include her children, Dan (Joyce) Schulzetenberg of Freeport, Richard (Monica) Schulzetenberg of Sauk Centre, Deb (Ted) Spanier of Sauk Centre, Ruth (Jim) Hartman of Des Moines, Iowa, Carl (Kathy) Schulzetenberg of Freeport, Paula (M.J.) Wenker of Hastings, and Gary (Nancy) Schulzetenberg of Albany; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Raymond Wenker of Melrose, Clarence (Mary Ann) Wenker of Melrose, Edna Worms of Melrose, Florentine Hammer of Richmond, Adeline (Stan) Schaefer of Burnsville, and Larry (Radi) Wenker of Melrose.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Schulzetenberg on January 22, 2005; parents; brothers, Herbert, Edmund, and Adolph Wenker; and sister, Marie Schneider.

Serving as casket bearers will be Paul Schulzetenberg, Kelli Arceneau, Kari Schulzetenberg, Mark Spanier, Anna Schulzetenberg, Brad Schulzetenberg, Ben Wenker, and Charles Wenker.  Cross bearer will be Emma Schulzetenberg and scripture bearer will be Tanya Christenson.  Honorary bearers will be Chris and Jacob Hartman, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
