
Memorial Service will be at 1 pm, Friday, April 28, 2017 at Peace United Church, Long Prairie, for Ted Ruter, age 60 of Hot Springs, South Dakota formerly of Long Prairie who passed away on Monday in Hot Springs. Rev. Gary Taylor will officiate. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Arrangements entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home-Stein Chapel, Long Prairie.
Ted Ruter was born on February 12, 1956 in Crooks Township, Renville County, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Agnes (Oslund) Ruter. He moved with his family to a farm in Reynolds Township. He grew up and attended school in Long Prairie. After graduating from high school he worked as a locomotive operator at American Crystal Sugar in Renville, Minnesota. He later worked as a salesman for several companies. In 2006 he partnered with and started an aerial photography business in Alexandria. Ted retired in 2016. He was married to Michelle Donavon.
He enjoyed carpentry and built several structures including a gazebo. He liked to go camping with his family and every fall had a pumpkin patch for the kids.
Ted is survived by his wife Michelle, Hot Springs, SD; his children Kayle (fiance’ Jon Johnson) Ruter of Roseau, MN, and Dillon Ruter of Alexandria; two Step-chlldren Richard Gettel, Fargo ND, and Amy (Eric) Bertram, Bertha, MN; eight grandchildren; siblings, Jerry (Eva) Ruter of Swanville, Lorraine Rudenick of Eagle Bend, John (Linda) Ruter of Eagle Bend, and David Ruter of Burlington, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Shawn and Joey Ruter, brothers Kenneth, and Jim, sister DeAnne Cummings, and nephew, Timothy Cummings.
