The Upsala Junior High Student of the Month for May is Mia Roerick. Mia is the daughter of Gerald and Julie Roerick. Mia has been named to the A honor roll twice and the B honor roll once. She participates in basketball and is the president of the 7th grade. Mia helps at home on the family farm and participates in the Sunday Sluggers program outside of school.
Mia’s favorite class is Agriculture because she likes to learn about animals. Mia says “Ag teaches you about animals and the environment. Right now our seventh grade is running a greenhouse and it teaches you how it feels to run a business and gives you a feeling for what it is like in the real world.”
Ms. Roxann Lewis, Mia’s Social Studies teacher states, “Mia has shown great improvements this year as she transitioned from elementary to junior high school. She has developed some great school and life habits that will help her to succeed throughout her academic and work life in the future. She has a very positive disposition and is liked by those she associates herself with. It has been my pleasure to have her in my class this year. Good Job, Mia!”
Mia enjoys collecting rocks, working on the farm, adding to her Dad’s key chain collection, and hunting. Her future plans are to work with animals or work on a farm. Mia’s advice for her classmates is to “Always try your best.”
