The faculty of Upsala Area Schools is proud to honor Rachel Prom as the September Junior High Student of the Month. She is the eighth grade daughter of DJ and JoAnne Prom.
Rachel is an active individual both in and out of the school setting. Since entering junior high, she has participated in choir, band, student council, and knowledge bowl. She has taken roles in the school musicals and was elected as her class president. In her community, Rachel is active in her church as a mass server and choir member. She also volunteers at the public library. When she has free time, she enjoys playing music, singing, and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.
Despite maintaining a busy schedule, Rachel manages to consistently remain on the A honor roll. She says algebra is her most valuable class because she learns important skills for the future. Choir, however, is Rachel’s favorite class. It is new for her this year and “fun.”
Denise Cheney, Rachel’s choir and band teacher, says “Rachel is always extremely prepared. This very talented young lady sets high goals for herself and practices very hard to achieve them. Rachel has played flute for church and weddings, yet she is only in 8th grade. Her penchant for music is evident in her everyday performances. What a fine example for others to follow.”
When asked what advice she has for her classmates, Rachel said, “Don’t be afraid to get involved in your school and community.” It would seem that Rachel lives her own advice every day.
