Victor “Vic” Scherping, 71-year-old resident of Long Prairie, MN passed away on November 6, 2018 at his residence. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16 at 7 PM at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville, MN with Pastor Anna Payne officiating. A visitation will be from 4-7 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Tuesday Morning Coffee Crew. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Bearhead Cemetery.
Vic was born on February 24, 1947 in Freeport, MN to Gothard and Gertrude Scherping. He grew up in Farming, MN before moving to the Swanville area. He was united in marriage to Linda Eggerth on January 5, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala, MN. The couple raised three children. Vic was known as a jokester and would “B.S.” with anyone. He always tinkered with motors and built many unique projects. Vic enjoyed tractor pulling and was well known for his John Deere 50 & “the popper.” Along with his two sons, he owned and operated Mid-Central Pullers Skid and put on many garden tractor pulls. He enjoyed competition sports as long as it had a motor. Vic was involved in organizing snodeos, hospice tractor rides, and classic snowmobile runs. He worked as a crane operator for 35 years for Robert Schroeder Construction and Glenwood Bridge. He was a proud member of the Local 49ers. Vic will be forever missed, but always remembered by his family and friends.
Victor is survived by his loving wife, Linda Scherping; children, Kelly Scherping, Laura Scherping, Allen (Tina) Scherping; brother, Lambert (Gloria) Scherping; sister-in-law, Elaine Scherping; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Scherping; sister, Geraldine Scherping; and infant sister, Clara Scherping.
