Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie for Virginia “Jean” A. Kruzel, age 80, of Long Prairie, who passed away on Sunday at Long Prairie Centra Care Health System after a long battle with Alzheimers. Rev. Richard Walz will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Friends and relatives may call on Thursday evening from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning. The rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. and parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m.
Virginia “Jean” was born on July 4, 1932 in Bowlus, MN to Bernard and Theresa (Masog) Dombovy. Jean’s father passed away due to a farming accident and her mother was remarried to Jerome Burggraff. Jean married Joseph Kruzel on June 4, 1951 in Royalton, MN at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was a cook, most recently for the Long Prairie Centra Care Health System. Jean also worked at the Hub Supper Club and in the Grey Eagle and Long Prairie Schools. She and Joe were chaperones for the Long Prairie High School Marching Band, traveling to California, Hawaii and many other places. Jean was known to all of the students as “Ma Kruzel”. She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Jean was also involved in Christian Mothers. She loved gardening, baking, especially coffee cake, and being with family. She had an extensive collection of owl trinkets. Jean will be missed by all who knew her and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph of Long Prairie; children, Shirley (Gordy) Reecy of Grey Eagle, Robert (Lynn) of Long Prairie, Sharon Kruzel of Long Prairie, Ronald (Debra) of Sobieski, Lawrence (Joan) of Long Prairie, Carl “Ray” (Corinne) of Florissant, MO, Kevin of Little Falls, Lyle (Mary) Kruzel of Browerville, and Charlene Kruzel of Dunnegan, MO; siblings, Marge (Rudolph) Rothleutner of Little Falls and David (Linda) Burggraff of Little Falls; 24 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and foster daughter, Brenda Guse and her son, Jamie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father; daughter, Mary Kruzel; brothers, James Dombovy, Bernard Dombrovy and Raymond Burggraff; sister, Joann Dombovy; grandson, Cody Kruzel and great grand daughter, Graciana Reecy.
