Virginia L. Berscheit

Virginia L. Berscheit, age 88 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Mitchell Bechtold officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Grey Eagle.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.
Virginia Lou Honaker was born August 24, 1925 in Urbana, Iowa to Benjamin and Lola (Devereaux) Honaker. She was united in marriage to Ernest Berscheit on July 16, 1943 in Hastings, Nebraska. Virginia was a homemaker for most of her life. She worked as a teacher’s aide at the Grey Eagle Public School and also worked at the Melrose Telephone Company until her retirement. Virginia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and enjoyed reading and music. She was devoted to her family, God, and her church and always said that her children were her greatest accomplishment.
Survivors include her children, Margaret “Mickey” Doucette of Burtrum, Lawrence “Larry” (Kathy) Berscheit of Golden Valley, Rita (Ken) Ritter of Sauk Centre, Jerome “Jerry” (Fely) Berscheit of Ramsey, Linda (Mark) Berens of Grey Eagle, Ari (T.J.) Trollen of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Lisa (Dave) Rahn of Melrose, Paul (Lynne) Berscheit of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and Ronald “Ron” Berscheit of Sauk Centre; and son-in-law, Tom Arvig of Melrose; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Benjamin Honaker of Denver, Colorado and Lola (Jake) Feis of Denver, Colorado.
Virginia was in preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Berscheit on November 12, 1972; parents; daughter, Emily Arvig; son-in-law, Dennis Doucette; grandson, Blaine Arvig; and brothers, William Honaker and Duane Honaker.
