Okay, maybe it wasn’t so much of a winter wonderland but Friday, Novem- ber 3rd marked the first significant snowfall of the upcoming winter. Thank- fully, the snow did not start until late afternoon and only impacted the after- noon commute. Unfortunately, in the law enforcement world we know that the first significant snowfall will lead to some vehicle operation challenges. At times, it seems like some Minnesota residents have forgotten that it snows here and driving behavior needs to change to accommodate the changing road conditions. Last Friday was no different. Since it was later in the day, the number of calls were slightly down compared to previous years. The Sheriff’s Office responded to 14 vehicles in the ditch and 6 property damage accidents between 3:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. on November 4th. As a friendly reminder, the Sheriff’s Office asks that drivers be aware of changing road conditions when it snows, allow yourself extra time if you can, reduce speed and increase your distance between your vehicle and others for safe- ty.
