St. Cloud, Minn. – Those who travel both directions Interstate 94 through Monticello should slow down and watch for slow or stopped traffic after the left lanes between Highway 18 and Highway 25 are closed, and traffic is shifted to two narrow, temporary driving lanes, on Monday, June 11.
The narrowed, temporary lanes and lane shifts will remain in place through late-July.
The lane closures and lane shifts are the first in a series of traffic changes that will occur on I-94 in Monticello in 2018. The closures are needed while crews construct the new Fallon Avenue bridge that will soon span I-94 in Monticello.
The lane closures, lane shifts and new bridge are part of a major project to improve the transportation system in the area. The project will construct a new roadway and bridge that spans I-94 and connects Fallon Avenue to Seventh Street, including three new roundabouts and additional sidewalk and trail connections. When complete, the project will decrease congestion, improve mobility and safety for motorists and pedestrians, and provide improved access to schools and businesses on the south side of I-94 in Monticello.
The project is being led by the city of Monticello. For more information, visit www.ci.monticello.mn.us/projects .
