On January 8, 2021 at approximately 5:21 pm the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an accident at the address of 36177 County Rd. 186 in Melrose Township. This address is located approximately 2 miles west of the city of Melrose. When responding officers arrived on scene, they found a male, identified as Keith Deane Kingsley, 32, of Melrose, who was entangled and trapped in the power take off (PTO) shaft of the tractor he was using. Kingsley had been operating the tractor, pulling a trailer, while sanitizing the interior of a turkey barn. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The incident remains under investigation by the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Melrose Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Melrose Fire Department, and Melrose Ambulance Service.
